Study of Sindhuvadi Village Ecosystem and Natural Resource Monitoring

by Pathways students in association with IISc, Bangalore.

Join us, save nature ...

 Live and let them live

“Reading about nature is fine,

but if a person walks in the woods and listens carefully,

he can learn more than what is in books”

The study was undertaken as a part of community outreach activity for the students of Pathways project. ‘Pathways’ is a global programme launched by the Ford Foundation to help the socially and economically marginalized students with bright academic record to access higher education and reach excellence. In India, the programme is monitored through an NGO Trust called Foundation for Academic Excellence and Access (FAEA), based in Delhi.

The study on Sindhuvadi Village Natural Resource Monitoring has added yet another feather in the cap of Pathways project. Apart from the academic part of the learning from the study, the non-academic learning is also equally important.  The students are groomed to become socially responsible citizens with the additional sensitization to the needs of the deprived villagers and villagers.  In India, the plight of the villages has hardly changed in terms of facilities. All the benefits of progress and amenities are concentrated in a few urban pockets only.  The students have realized this truth and have tried to analyze the reasons too.  Awareness of the issues is in itself a great march towards solving the issues. The experience is invaluable.  They have developed a keen concern for the environmental issues, transportation, irrigation, price for the agricultural produce, education facilities etc.

One of the major task students ever did in India. This involved Field Surveys as well as data analysis. We got to know about real scenario of the village and the hardships that our farmers face. This project have enlightened our minds and hearts. India is a country where agriculture is a major source of income. But we don't think on the persons who does this i.e., farmers. Every experience teaches us a new lesson. Similarly, by doing this project we learnt research methodologies.
