Sahyadri Science College, Shimoga is one of the twenty privileged colleges in the country to participate in the Ford Foundation sponsored global project called "Pathways". The main objective of the project is to identify the academically distinguished students from the socially and economically marginalized sections of the society and to help them access higher education through financial and academic assistance.

Sahyadri Science College is selecting twenty-five such students every year since 2002-03 and helping these students to shape their career through training and various innovative activities like Computer skills, communications skills, career planning, HRD skills etc. The students maintain regular diary on their participation and document their learning. Apart from this the students also undergo special workshops during the mid-term and summer vacations. Student assignments, field visits and community outreach activities are conducted during these workshops to instill a sense of social commitment and social responsibility in them. A Social Research Project was taken up for the year 2006-07 as a part of community outreach activity.
